The Bird in the Cage
[Intro]
[Verse]
[Outro]
The Bird in the Cage
One cold winter day
The parakeet I had been keeping
Escaped from the cage and ran away
He found a way to open the door with his beak
And went out into the world
Through the open door of the shed
The world was covered in snow
There was no food anywhere
The metaphor of a bird in a cage
Is often used for negative things
But is that really true?
Is a bird in a cage unhappy?
Well, if you put a wild bird in a cage
That would be unhappy
So what about a bird that has been raised in a cage from the beginning?
Is it happy to live its whole life in a cage without worrying about food?
Is it happy to know the truth in the morning and die at dusk?
Is it happy to know the vast world that it didn’t know before?
The bird that flew out of the cage
Was perched on a branch of a nearby tree two days later
He showed no sign of coming this way
He just stared into the distance
